Inupiaq Grave, Alaska, 1890s

The natives of Point Hope, Alaska, one of the oldest continually occupied sites in North America, are of the Inupiat community of Inuits. Referred to at the time by the exonym “Eskimos,” this 1890’s photograph shows graves of timber and whalebone.
